I feel as though my skills to achieve great peer review practice are very strong, and this is due to the fact that I have learned so much throughout this year . I was able to give my peers constructive criticism throughout their essays. I used to focus only on correcting local revisions during peer review and not paying attention to global ones. I have learned that although local revisions are very important, global revisions are more beneficial for the person you are giving feedback to.
I started to focus more on if the claims that were made throughout my peers papers were relating back to their main idea and their thesis. Some examples of this are referred to here in one of my peer’s paper Marked First Draft of One Peer’s Paper in comments 6 and 13. I mention that they should make sure that the claims they are stating throughout their essay are also stated in the thesis. I explained how this will help bring their paper together as a whole.
I also added in suggestions to where they could add in quotes to help back up what they were saying, and made sure that the quotes that they did have were appropriate and made sense for backing up the claims. Comments 9, and 12 in my peer’s essay that I marked up shows an example of this. I made sure to explain how there needed to be a quote added in so there was evidence to back up what was being said. I also made sure to point out where there needed to be more detail added into certain parts of the essay because it did not explain the topic enough. I am referring to comments 2, 4, and 14 when talking about this. I made sure to explain reasons why there needed to be more detail and give suggestions on how something in the paper could improve more.
I also of course made sure to add in comments about things in the essay that I thought were very strong. This is displayed in comments 1, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 11. I think in peer review it is so important to look at the positive things that the writer has created throughout their paper. In the comments that I made I make sure to state how I enjoyed certain parts, or how I think that it was a good place in the writing to put things. This made it so I was able to give them very strong feedback and advice that would benefit them the most.
